Many people think that Oxford Circus is the busiest tube station on the underground, but in fact, it is Bank.
Bank serves 5 lines (central, northern, Waterloo and city, circle and district) as well as DLR. Bank is named bank because of the Bank of England located on top.
In 2022, Bank station will be redeveloped and will have a new platform for the northern line and a new entrance.
You can also travel around Bank station in 15 minutes without going over yourself. Here's how to do it:
1) Start at the central line ticket hall, enter any of the main numbered entrances that are in a circle on street level. Walk around before coming to the gateline.
2) Next, go down the escalators and turn right to walk along the central line's westbound platform until you find a sign for the northern line. This will take you down a spiral staircase and into a corridor which leads to an open area with a spot for buskers. Go down the steps onto a northern platform and walk almost the whole length of it.
3) Towards the end of the platform, turn right into a small corridor marked for the DLR. Follow this and you'll go down a narrow staircase and a narrow corridor which takes you the DLR platforms.
4) Then, follow the signs for the central line, which will take you up and onto the escalator. Keep going straight, up another escalator, turn left at the top and follow signs for the Waterloo and city line platforms.
5) Use the long corridor that takes you over the red tunnel shield embedded in the wall.
6) Just before the Waterloo and city platforms, you'll see the new way in and out of Bank station. This is the Wallbrook Street entrance.
7) Do this bit without going over yourself by using the stairs or elevator. Once you get to the top, turn around and use the escalator to come back down.
8) Head down to the Waterloo and City platforms, and now you ride the travelator that will take you back to the central line ticket hall where you started.
Remember that when you Bank, that you visit on off-peak times as it is the busiest station.
Happy adventuring!
