The 15 places in South London that should have a tube station according to locals

Here's all the places in South London that should have Tube stations, according to Londoners (Image: Yui Mok)

The London Underground, as much as we love complaining about it, is a pretty useful amenity.

It offers cheap travel, enables people to get many places in London and even runs all night on some lines.

So it's understandably annoying for many people that there just aren't many Tube stations in South London.

You've got parts of the Northern line, crossing the river to London Bridge and heading on down via Clapham and South Wimbledon, ending at Morden.

The District line goes through parts of South West London, including Putney and Wimbledon on one branch and Kew and Richmond on another.

The Victoria line is in South London for a very short time, stretching only to Brixton in Zone 2, while the Bakerloo line similarly ends at Elephant and Castle in Zone 1.

The Jubilee line technically stops at Waterloo and London Bridge before crossing back over the river, but that's barely worth mentioning as they're only just South London.

Essentially some of the lines cross just over the river but it can hardly be said that they cover a lot of South London.

The area relies more on the London Overground, National Rail trains and the Croydon tram as well as buses.

But people living in London would, of course, find it easier if there were Tube connections.

When MyLondon asked the question, here's the places that South Londoners feel really should have Underground stations, plus how it could work.

Victoria line

The below places could certainly be included in extensions of the Victoria line.

Currently, the line runs from Walthamstow in North London, crosses the river to Vauxhall, and only goes as far as Brixton.

There's definitely room for this quick line to be extending directly downwards, covering more of South London.

1. Croydon

2. West Norwood

3. Thornton Heath

Northern line

The Northern line is probably the most impressive line when it comes to covering South London.

It already stretches down to Morden.

However, Londoners mentioned a few areas even below that which would benefit from being connected on the Tube.

4. Mitcham

5. Sutton

The Bakerloo line has a lot of capacity to be extended as it currently ends at Elephant and Castle in Zone 1.

Some of the places it could be extended to, that Londoners said they would like to see Tube stations, are:

6. Camberwell

7. Dulwich

8. Crystal Palace

The Bakerloo line could have two branches from Elephant and Castle, with another branch reaching the areas of South East London where people think there should be Tube stations, as follows.

9. Peckham

10. Bell Green

11. Beckenham

12. Bromley

13. Orpington

Finally, the Jubilee line could also have a new branch, coming from North Greenwich, in order to make certain parts of South East London more accessible.
