While we all like a good moan about the Tube we really couldn't imagine our lives without it.
We're all so often glued to our phones that we forget to take a moment to look around appreciate how incredibly fascinating the network is.
Thankfully, the lovely researchers at Transport for London have put together an incredibly interesting list of facts about the Underground you probably didn't know about.
The trivia answers questions you likely never thought to ask, like which station has the deepest lift shaft and where has the longest escalator.

1. When did the Tube open?
It opened in 1863 and changed the way Londoners travelled around the city forever.
2. How many passengers travel on the Tube?

There are around 1.35 billion passengers annually.

3. How long is the network?
It's a staggering 402 kilometres (or 249.7 miles) - that's almost the distance between Central London and County Durham.
4. What's the busiest station?
Britain's busiest railway station is Waterloo(Image: PA)
It's Waterloo, which welcomes 100.3 million passengers per year.

5. What's the annual train km travelled?
83.6 million km, or 51.9 million miles - that's QUITE a lot.
6. How about the average train speed?

The average speed is 33 kilometres - or 20.5 miles - per hour.
7. How much of the network is in tunnels?
45 per cent - we thought it'd be higher.
8. What's the longest continuous tunnel?
It's East Finchley to Morden (via Bank) - 27.8km or 17.2 miles.

9. Which station has the most escalators?
It's Waterloo with a staggering 23.
10. Which station has the longest escalator?
Angel has the longest escalator
Angel takes the crown with 60 metres.
11. Which station has the shortest escalator?
Stratford - 4.1 metres.
12. How many passenger lifts are there?
There are 202 passenger lifts(Image: Transport for London)
There are 202 - which doesn't seem very many if you think about it.

13. How many escalators are there?
There are 451 across the network.
14. What about moving walkways?
You'll find moving walkways at Bank and Waterloo(Image: TFL)
Although we're more used to seeing them at airports, there are four moving walkways - two each at Waterloo and Bank.
15. Where's the deepest lift shaft?
It's at Hampstead where it reaches 55.2 metres deep.
16. And the shortest lift shaft?
King’s Cross St. Pancras has the shortest lift shaft
That can be found at King’s Cross St. Pancras where it's just 2.3 metres.

17. Which is the highest station above mean sea level?
It's Amersham on the Metropolitan Line, 147 metres.
18. Which station has the most platforms?

19. Which is the station furthest from Central London?
It's Chesham on the Metropolitan line which is 47km - or 29.2 miles - to Aldgate.
20. What's the longest distance between stations?

The longest distance is 6.3km - or 3.91 miles - between Chesham to Chalfont & Latimer on the Metropolitan line.
21. How about the shortest distance?
There's just 0.3km - or 0.18 miles - between Leicester Square and Covent Garden.
22. What's the longest direct journey?

Coming in at a whopping 54.9km - or 34.11 miles, it's Epping to West Ruislip on the Central line.
